About
Florida Forever
Florida Forever, the state's landmark land conservation program,
has made possible historic, on-the-ground conservation in every county
of Florida. Today, however, Florida Forever is falling behind. With
its limited funding, Florida Forever can not meet the most critical
land conservation needs of our state. The $300 million that we invest
in land conservation annually through Florida Forever has not increased
in more than 18 years — during which time the cost of land
has doubled and tripled in parts of our state.
Florida Forever must be enhanced and increased in order to address
the conservation, environmental and recreation challenges of today
and tomorrow.
In 2008, the Florida Legislature passed unanimously, and Governor Charlie Crist signed into law, a long-term reauthorization of the Florida Forever Program (SB 542). This was a great achievement for the people of Florida. However, the borrowing possible under the reauthorized Florida Forever Program must be appropriated each and every year by the Legislature.
