Florida Forever was created in 2001 to succeed the extremely successful Preservation 2000 conservation program. Under Florida Forever and Preservation 2000, Florida has protected more than 2.4 million acres of land.
To name just a few successes, Florida Forever has protected:
"Florida Forever is a vital program that helps protect our state's quality of life, drinking water, and natural resources. The Florida Forever program has been instrumental in providing matching funds to the locally funded Alachua County Forever program, which as protected nearly 13,000 acres of important natural areas and wildlife habitat. The Conservation Trust has worked as a non-profit partner to the Alachua County program to secure additional federal grants for acquisition and provide outreach to the public."
