"Along with others in my community, I have worked to get a parcel of land set aside for wildlife conservation. The land has already been looked over by several big-box stores, a multi-family apartment complex, and several housing developers. We even managed to fight off WalMart from this location - directly across the street from an elementary school.

This is our last piece of Atlantic Coastal Ridge habitat in our fair city and it is loaded with gopher tortoise and scrub jays and several rare, native plants, one - the diceranda mint - only grows in our fair city.

The decision to purchase this land has already been made. But the money has yet to be spent. The land itself was rolled up with the greater Brevard scrub habitat that was already purchased. Delaying (or denying) this money now, will ultimately put this prime real estate (with Interstate highway access) back on the market, and nullify our efforts over the past 4 years to get this land preserved."
